Are you an organised foodie who can easily switch from running an efficient test kitchen to preparing dishes on a commercial photo set?
We’re looking for a Culinary Creative to join our Alexandria team. Our culinary department is a close-knit, high-energy group of food lovers who collaborate closely to bring the best possible product to our customers. In this role, you’ll be the operational backbone that keeps our busy Sydney test kitchen running smoothly, while actively helping us build our multi-brand recipe portfolios.
You won’t just manage inventory and fill out stock sheets – you’ll connect the dots between our behind-the-scenes kitchen logistics and our creative recipe development, ensuring an accurate and exceptional cooking experience for thousands of home cooks across Australia.
The Opportunity
Manage Daily Test Kitchen Operations: Oversee the day-to-day running of the Alexandria test kitchen and studio, including daily setup, inventory ordering, equipment maintenance, and ensuring strict compliance with food safety and WHS standards.
Coordinate Casual Kitchen Hands: Manage the scheduling, daily tasks, training, and timesheet approvals for casual kitchen hands to keep the kitchen supported and organised.
Coordinate Product and Ingredient Testing: Receive, log, cook, and photograph incoming ingredient samples, and document the findings to provide clear feedback to our sourcing and culinary teams.
Develop and Write Recipes: Research, test, and write brand-aligned, nutritious, and budget-friendly recipes using our in-house database software, incorporating editor and customer feedback.
Execute Recipe Photocheffing: Prepare and cook dishes for photoshoots, collaborating closely with stylists and photographers to deliver accurate step shots and hero images so that home cooks have a clear visual guide.
What we’re looking for:
You’ll thrive in this role if you are highly organised, detail-oriented, and practical. You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where your time is split between hands-on kitchen management and creative cooking, and you are comfortable collaborating across different teams.
You’ll bring:
Early-career experience (1–2 years) in a commercial kitchen, test kitchen, or food business. We highly welcome applications from recent graduates with strong practical placement or apprenticeship experience.
Strong culinary skills with a solid understanding of ingredients, cooking techniques, and recipe scaling.
Excellent organisational skills with a working knowledge of Safe Food Handling and WHS practices.
Strong digital literacy, including experience with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets) and the ability to learn internal database systems.
A full Australian driver’s licence and access to a reliable car for local purchasing runs.
Bonus points if you have:
Previous experience in a test kitchen, commercial studio, or tracking product samples.
Basic experience in proofreading, recipe editing, or working with brand style guides.
Familiarity with meal kits and the Marley Spoon or Dinnerly models.
