Freelance Recipe Editor
Bring your sharp eye, warm voice, and love of food to a freelance role where great recipes meet great storytelling.
About the Role
At Marley Spoon, great recipes start with great writing, sharp editing, and just the right pinch of personality. We’re looking for a US-based Freelance Recipe Editor to help bring our Marley Spoon and Dinnerly recipes to life for home cooks across the country.
This is a part-time freelance role, approximately 18 hours per week, perfect for someone who loves food writing, thoughtful editing, and the behind-the-scenes systems that bring great meal experiences to life.
In this role, you’ll copy edit recipes, proof recipe cards, check for accuracy across portion sizes, and help ensure every step is clear, consistent, and true to brand voice. You’ll partner closely with our culinary and menu management teams, using both editorial judgment and customer feedback to improve how our recipes read, flow, and perform.
This could be a great fit for someone who is equal parts food lover, word nerd, and systems thinker — someone who can spot a missing comma, a confusing recipe step, or an opportunity to make the customer experience just a little more delicious.
If you’re excited by the intersection of food, writing, and technology, and you want to help home cooks feel confident in the kitchen, we’d love to meet you.
About Marley Spoon
Marley Spoon reimagines meals for real life. We make it easier for people to cook and eat well at home by delivering high-quality ingredients and delicious recipes directly to our customers.
Across our Marley Spoon and Dinnerly brands, we’re focused on making weeknight cooking feel more approachable, more enjoyable, and a little less “what’s for dinner?” stressful. From recipe development to the final recipe card, every detail matters — and that’s where you come in.
What You’ll Do
Copy edit recipes in line with Marley Spoon and Dinnerly brand language, style guidelines, and customer needs.
Prepare and proof recipe cards for accuracy, clarity, consistency, and ease of use.
Check recipe content across portion sizes to ensure instructions, ingredients, timing, and flow are accurate.
Learn and work within our content management systems and recipe tools.
Become fluent in both Marley Spoon and Dinnerly brand voices, with the ability to switch between the two with confidence.
Partner with culinary and menu management teams on recipe techniques, steps, flow, and ingredient usage.
Use customer feedback and operational updates to improve the quality and clarity of recipe writing.
Help make every recipe feel clear, craveable, and ready for the dinner table.
What You’ll Bring
2+ years of recipe, food, or editorial experience at a food-focused brand, publication, or similar environment.
Strong proofreading instincts, excellent grammar, and a sharp eye for consistency.
Clear, warm communication and the ability to work well in a deadline-driven team environment.
Strong multitasking skills and high attention to detail.
Comfort working in Google Workspace and content-management tools.
Ability to adapt quickly as priorities shift.
A collaborative, low-ego approach and genuine excitement for making recipes better for home cooks.
A love of food, writing, and the small details that turn a good recipe into a great customer experience.
Nice to Have
Experience working with meal kits, food media, recipe development, DTC, subscription, or lifestyle brands.
An entrepreneurial mindset and curiosity about how content, food, and technology work together.
Comfort using feedback, customer insights, or data to improve content quality.
Ability to identify workflow improvements and suggest practical, helpful solutions.
Experience working with cross-functional teams in a remote environment.
